WINDSURFINGRed Bull set to support the UK's most challenging sporting event Global brand Red Bull has announced its support of the forthcoming Tiree Wave Classic, running from 11 to 18 October 2008. The energy drink will be providing product and a specially created athlete area where competitors can relax during the event.
The competition is one of the UK's most challenging of sporting events and is set to attract over 700 visitors to the island, making it the island's biggest economic driver of the year.
Set up in 1986 and sanctioned to World Cup level in 2007, the competition showcases Scotland as a world-class events destination. Tiree's rugged coastline, superb waves and £5000 prize fund will provide the riskiest and most adventurous challenge yet for windsurfing's elite competitors.
From its modest beginnings, owners of the Tiree Wave Classic Competition, GMFCo Marketing, have delivered a marketing and sponsorship solution to major brands for over 20 years. Now one of the biggest events on the Scottish sporting calendar, GMFCo expect this year's competition to be the most challenging yet.
A Red Bull marketing representative said: 'The event is the UK's premier windsurfing competition and one which is important to Scotland. It is also one of the most spectacular water sports to watch and is aligned with Red Bull's involvement in adrenaline fuelled sports.'
Gordon Ritchie, Director of GMFCo Ltd, the event organisers, said: 'We're delighted Red Bull are supporting this year's Tiree Wave Classic, the brand is a perfect fit. This competition is not for the faint hearted.'
